Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Is the water safe to drink?
Answer: The water comes from a borehole. While the water is safe to drink, it is recommended you filter it, or buy bottled water. This is why there is a water filter in the fridge. To be safe, get all your drinking water from the water dispenser in the fridge.

Question: Can you pay for things with rands?
Answer: Rands are readily acceptable in Ponta do Ouro, and most prices are displayed in rands as well as metacais, however there is only one ATM and not every restaurant or shop takes credit cards. Please make sure you bring enough cash with you to last the trip. Alternatively, if you need cash, you can travel back over the border to eManguzi which is 28km from the border to get some.

Question: Can I bring my boat?
Answer: Yes, Mar e Sol has a wash bay and enough space for you to keep your boat. You’ll have to purchase a license from the maritime officer before you are permitted to launch however. Launching is done from the beach in the bay just below Mar e Sol.

Question: Can you drive on the beach?
Answer: No.

Question: Are quad bikes allowed?
Answer: Yes, but children under the age of 16 are not allowed to drive them.
